It is wonderful to see young marketers spreading wings. 15th September 2016 a grand event was held in the luxurious Kingsbury hotel colombo, where seven individuals of SLIM Toastmasters Club took to the skies as the new executive committee.
Eminent, Council of Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing and the Executive Committee of SLIM graced the occasion and were welcomed by the outgoing president Toastmaster Hasalaka DeSilva. Toastmaster Hasalaka shared how SLIM Toastmasters inception was 8 years ago in 2009. He further explained that since that time they have grown from strength to strength. which resulted in the accolades received last year, including the golden gavel plus the highest achievement a Toastmasters Club can get and having 7 members of the club competing at district level competitions last year.
The Chief Guest – President of SLIM Council Mr Upul Adhikari, The Guest of Honor – District Director of District 82 Toastmasters International, Distinguished Toastmaster Sudash Liyanage and The Keynote Speaker – Head of HR LOLC Group Mr Pradeep Uluwaduge gave their blessings for the new committee and shared wise and inspirational messages with the audience.
The installation was a wonderful ceremony, with the installing officer Mihirini Fonseka installing the executive committee to their offices. Toastmaster Jacintha Mani – President, Toastmaster Harshan Senadhira – Vice President Education, Toastmaster Farhan Imamudeen – Vice President Membership, Toastmaster Nuwan Rathnayaka – Vice President Public Relations, Toastmaster Shashika Manamperi – Secretary, Toastmaster Enoch Perera – Treasurer, Toastmaster Sobanoo Zain – Sergeant-at-Arms.
Metamorphosis, or the inevitable cellular transformation a butterfly has to go through in order to reach the skies, was selected to be the theme of the evening as it is the theme selected for the year 2016/2017 by the SLIM Toastmasters.
Toastmaster Jacintha explained, under the them ‘Metamorphosis’, how she and her capable team would be helping with the transformation process of future leaders and marketers. They will be looking at empowering women, introducing the opportunities in sales and marketing to a few schools via workshops, ensure that all SLIM graduates will have the necessary skills in communication and leadership to grow in to their wings, as well as the growth of the club members.
True to the Toastmasters’ vision of being the platform where leaders are made, we were able to witness many a leaders made take stage on this occasion. Including the executive committee, the able comparers who kept the energy high in the evening and lovely singing and vibrant dancing acts performed by the talented Toastmasters.
The evening came to a closure with dinner, dancing, fellowship and blessings from everyone for the new executive committee of SLIM Toastmasters Club.
